The Serenity House Network staff and volunteers made us feel at home with their wonderful, caring thoughtfulness and gestures. Putting up a Christmas tree for us and bringing me a birthday pie was amazing. We felt we were in a warm embrace!
Thank you for making our stay special.

Baptist Hospitality House 2015: Furnished home for AML patient and his family
June 18 – November 20, 2015
Our family was able to call the Baptist Hospitality House “our home” for several months. My husband, Jason (40 years old), was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) in April 2015 back home in Bismark. We were flown to Rochester the day after the discovery of his illness. Our three boys, ages 11, 7, and 5, stayed in Bismark with our relatives to finish out the school year. As you can probably imagine, it was very difficult for our family to be apart during this scary time.
We were so blessed to find Serenity House Network. Once we found out we could have a “home” in June, we started making plans for the boys to be with us over the summer. We contacted the YMCA in Rochester and our boys were able to go to summer camp during the day. This was extremely helpful because Jason had chemotherapy appointments or was hospitalized and this gave the boys some great activities to get their minds off of things during the day.
We made the most of our family time on the nights and weekends. The little boys enjoyed the park behind the house. They also liked the bigger park which was just a block away as well as the baseball diamonds. When Jason was feeling well, we took day trips nearby. We also enjoyed using the grill and watching the wildlife of squirrels and birds.
Jason had a stem cell transplant on August 14, 2015. The boys had to return home at the end of August for school, but they still talk about the good times they had in Rochester. In mid-October, I returned to work while other caregivers took care of Jason. This would have been nearly impossible to do in a hotel room!
Greg and Jodie from Serenity House Network were so kind to us. Jodie offered to do an impromptu photo session of our family one day while the GreatDeeds fire truck came for the boys to enjoy. John from GreatDeeds drove the boys around in the fire truck, took them our for ice cream and prayed with us. Jodie created a beautiful photo book for us that we will treasure forever. Because of Serenity House Network we were able to be a family during a great portion of our time in Rochester. For that we are forever grateful!
Sincerely,

We felt fortunate to have this nice apartment to stay in while I was recovering from a bone marrow transplant. It was cozy and comfortable and just the right size for us. The best part was coming back here each day after the busy schedule at Mayo and having our own quiet space to relax in.
We are so grateful to Serenity House Network for providing this kind of lodging for Mayo patients.

Serenity House Network welcomed Abby Tesch and her family at the beginning of November. We had the privilege of witnessing her remarkable recovery during her time in Rochester at Mayo Clinic’s Pain Rehabilitation Center Program.
This is her when she first arrived, in her wheelchair:
… after her three-week rehabilitation program, this is Abby now:
Such a blessing to have been able to provide patient housing for this special young woman.

Pine Tree Place 2015: A Mayo patient’s housing experience in Rochester
November 2, 2015 I’m so grateful to have had a month to stay at Pine Tree Place. It was such a comfort to come home to a cozy and welcoming home. This was so important to me after being at Mayo during the day. Thank you and thank you to all the wonderful staff for your support!
Julianna Apt: Curtiss Family 2015, A short-term home for a patient undergoing radiation
Sunny Place Cottage, Julianna Apartment
My daughter had a tumor removed in July and radiation was needed. It is a special radiation treatment that is not done in Montana, so Minnesota’s Mayo Clinic was the closest place to get it done.
This is a six-week treatment plan so looking for a place to live for six weeks was not easy until I ran across Serenity House Network. This was the best choice by far to staying in a hotel. It was so nice to come home to a home when you’re a long ways from your own home. It was so nice to be able to do our own cooking and have all the supplies here already.
It was so nice for my daughter to heal and rest at a home away from home.
Thank you so much Jodie and Greg!

Dear Greg & Jodie,
What would we have done without this refuge of peace and healing space? We will always be grateful for this home away from home during Kirk’s needed stay in Rochester.
Thank you so much for creating this wonderful safe and welcoming space where we found refuge in the stress of all the doctoring.
With grateful hearts,
