Every year, eagles love to visit the lake area to mate and nest. This is an exciting time for birdwatchers and nature enthusiasts alike! So, if you’re considering visiting Grand Rivers for Kentucky Lake eagle watching, here are a few things you should know!
When to Come
The best time to come watch the eagles is during their mating season, which runs from mid-January to late February. This is when the eagles are most active, and you’re most likely to see them flying around and nesting.
Where to Go
There are a few hot spots around Kentucky Lake where the eagles like to roost. Lighthouse Landing Resort & Marina is home to a scenic area along the banks of Kentucky Lake with magnificent views and breathtaking wildlife. Visitors can look out over miles of water from the comfort of their cottage and watch as majestic eagles soar overhead. The eagles come to Kentucky Lake every winter for food and shelter, so chances are you won’t have any trouble finding them!
In addition, the LBL Woodlands Nature Station will host eagle viewing van tours throughout February 2023. This three-hour tour will allow you to explore the eagles’ and other winter birds’ favorite roosting spots.
Another great spot for eagle watching is at Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area. This area is home to over 20 eagle nests, so you’re sure to see plenty of eagles perched in the trees when visiting.
What to Bring
When you’re enjoying Kentucky Lake eagle watching, bring your binoculars and a camera. You’ll want to be able to zoom in and get a good look at these magnificent birds. Many of the best eagle-watching spots in the Kentucky Lake area are accessible by foot, so don’t forget to bring your best hiking shoes!
