Your Guide to a Three-Day Weekend to Kentucky Lake this Fall

Image of a lake in the fall.

Wake up to hot coffee and a stunning lake view dotted with the reds and golds of fall when you book a stay at Lighthouse Landing. Plan a long three-day weekend to enjoy the many water and land activities at Kentucky Lake this fall with our list of favorites!

Day 1

We know you want to take it easy your first day after a long week. Stop at the Village Market & Café when you get in. Grab a tasty breakfast or sandwich from the café before perusing the aisles for your weekend staples. If you’re lucky enough to get in Friday morning or early afternoon, spend the day relaxing waterside on rocky banks waiting for the fish to bite. No catch? No problem. Dinner at the Thirsty Turtle is a must while you’re in Grand Rivers. Order a cold beer and fried fish basket for a full belly. After a casual dining experience, spend the rest of the evening enjoying starry skies and conversation around the firepit.

Day 2

Sleep in and start your day with a cup of coffee on your balcony overlooking the lake. Spend a leisurely day taking in the best of Kentucky Lake. Choose between a variety of activities available.

Hiking in Land Between the Lakes

Experience the crisp morning breeze with a hike in Grand Rivers or Land Between the Lakes and see the fall colors as you make your way through the acres of dense forest. Choose a short trail like the Grand Rivers Walking Trail for a quick and exhilarating two-mile morning journey through the heart of town. Or spend the day trekking the Central Hardwoods Scenic Trail. Explore the 11 miles of paved and unpaved paths that run along Lake Barkley and Kentucky Lake. Bring your camera to capture the fall view and active wildlife.

Hunting Near Kentucky Lakes

Hunting enthusiasts love the thrill of tracking game animals large and small through the 8800 acres of public lands and 300 miles of shoreline. Sportsmen come out every fall to enjoy the variety of wildlife available in the region. Most hope to return home with a wild turkey or the elusive white-tailed deer, the sign of a successful hunting trip to Kentucky Lake.

A Day on the Lake

Would you rather spend the day on the water? Rent a kayak from a local outfitter like Wood-N-Wave Bicycles and Watersports just minutes from your cabin rental at Lighthouse Landing. Make your way down the designated water trails that run through the Kentucky Lake area. As you float, watch the birds soar overhead as you take in the scenery.

Grab a waterfront dinner at Harbor Lights Restaurant at Kentucky Dam for a casual southern dining experience. Or, try Buzzard Rock café for tasty food, live music, and your favorite drink lakeside.

End the day enjoying a waterside sunset at your cabin. Watch the sky start to match the transitioning foliage, then fade to reveal clear starry skies above the tree line.

Day 3

Start with a brunch on the bay at Docker’s Bayside Grill. The whole family will enjoy choosing from waffles, omelets, and fluffy pancakes to begin the last day of your getaway. After having your fill explore the town of Grand Rivers. With plenty of shops and boutiques to choose from you could spend the whole day getting to know the city.

Visit Patti’s Settlement and enjoy the fall gardens alongside a taste of Southern hospitality. After lunch, take the kids for a round of mini-golf or pan for gold just like the miners of old. Don’t forget to get a souvenir and freshly baked pastry or homemade fudge from Yesterday’s, Patti’s onsite souvenir shop and bakery.

Time permitting, take the opportunity to stop in the other coastal communities surrounding Kentucky Lake as you head out. We guarantee you won’t leave without starting to plan your next trip to the lake.
